Herbie's Story

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.

Herbie is a 3 year old, 8 pound Maltese. He was found by a family who could not locate Herbie's owners, so took him to the animal shelter. Herbie had some hair loss due to an allergy, which kept him from being adopted by the public. He has now joined our rescue.

We are not certain if his allergy is fleas or grains, but his skin has healed up now that he is on a grain free diet and does not suffer with fleas. It won't take long for his white coat to grow thick again.

Herbie although small in stature, has a "large and in charge" attitude. He will benefit from having a family with dog experience. If the experience is with the Maltese breed, even better! He can get grumpy, so we are looking for a home without young children. He has not been a biter, but he does growl when things are not to his liking. We jokingly say he's purring, although we do know better. Example: He is fabulous for his bath. While towel drying him, he growls. Never bit, just for whatever reason, does not like the towel drying process.

We think he can be a great dog in the right home. He has been a very easy dog to foster. Very dog social and truly not a problem. We will certainly be open to letting an approved applicant foster him prior to committing to adoption.
