Tessa's Story
**Tessa is currently being fostered in Houston. Her adoption will be out-of-state, which means, unfortunately, meeting her prior to her adoption will not be possible. Her adoption donation is $500, which covers his flight, a new kennel, and of course she is fully vetted. Because flights are so expensive, the adoption fee is non-negotiable.**
Our sweet Tessa came to us with six new born baby girls in tow. Tessa had come into one of Houston’s high kill shelters and given birth to her litter just hours before she struck gold when her foster mom happened to be at the shelter and saw her and her little brood. She was quickly whisked from the shelter to the loving safety of her amazing foster home. Her rough time on the streets came to light a few days later as she got very ill and had to have emergency surgery to help her recover from all of the garbage she ate on the streets while she was fighting to keep her babies alive. She came through her surgery well and has blossomed into a healthy and happy girl.
Tessa is anticipated by the vet to be an approximately 1 year-old Lab/Hound mix who will likely be in the 45-50 pound range when she is full grown. She has no residual health issues from her time on the streets. Tessa has bonded quickly to her foster mom and has spent a good amount of time being socialized around new things and new people. She is quickly learning how to be brave with new people and new situations, but will need a family who will be patient with her as she learns that her life will only be good from here forward. Her new family should also understand that having spent time on the streets, she may take some time to fully acclimated into a trust her new family. It is normal for dogs to take time to settle in to their new routines, which means they may have accidents and are likely to investigate (and maybe even chew on) things they shouldn’t. Tessa’s perfect family will be one that believes in positive reinforcement and will be committed to giving her all the time she needs to acclimate into a loving family environment.
Tessa should be adopted by a family that plans to keep her as an inside pet and member of the family. We do not adopt dogs out that will be left unattended outside for long periods of time or who will primarily live outside.
Tessa is fully vetted (spayed, vaccinated, dewormed, and microchipped). Tessa is healthy and has no known health issues. She is heartworm negative and has been on flea and heartworm prevention since she was brought into rescue.
The first step in our adoption process is to fill out an adoption application through our website at www.reggiesfriends.org. Please hover over the adoptables tab for a link to the application. We can generally process applications within 5-7 days and would like adoptive families to be able to take custody of the dog within two weeks of the process being finalized.
