Lucas's Story
Lucas is a wonderful 1-1/2 yo. special needs border collie. Lucas needs a skilled and patient person who has experience working with fear aggressive border collies. He is the sweetest guy to the people whom he trusts, but is wary of strangers. Lucas does generally seem to get used to women more quickly then men. However Lucas is very food motivated and has had no problem getting used to strangers as long as the stranger is not overly pushy. Lucas can be reactive on leash toward strange sounds. He loves other dogs and tolerates grumpy dogs very well. Although Lucas has never done more then nip a cat and seems to some what respect them when they get grumpy. Like any dog I would never leave him alone with a smaller animal, as his herding drive is over the top. NO CHILDREN! Lucas does however listen to his people very well and is highly sensitive so he needs a home that will both be gentle and attentive to his needs and behavior.
Lucas was tested with sheep and would not be a good herding dog. He also met chickens but seemed as if he thought they were a snack so he would not do well unattended with farm animals. Lucas is very smart and treat driven so could make a fun sports, trick dog In the right home however with his fear issues he may have trouble ever being a competition level dog. It really depends on his person how fast and how well he can progress. Although Lucas has his share of fear issues, at home he is like any other dog and actually generally behaves better then his foster siblings. He is quiet when there are strangers in the front yard and he is an absolute joy to be around. He sure knows how to make his people feel like they are special with his lil nose touches, loving eyes and gentle nudges. He is a very loving pup that holds a special place in our hearts and would love to find a home with someone that would love and “protect” him as much as we do.
