Carter's Story

Our rescue will be at the Palo Alto Pet Food Express Saturday, July 2nd and Sunday, July 3rd from 12-3pm. All of our dogs are spayed/neutered, shots current (DHPP, Bordetella and Rabies where applicable), dewormed, flea and tick treated and microchipped.

* If you are interested in a dog, please first read the biography on the dog (keep scrolling down for the bio!) and then go to our website, www.dpsrescue.com for an application. * We do not have a facility. All dogs live in foster homes. Arrangements to meet dogs occur after an approved application has been accepted. * We do not ship our dogs for any reason. * Our adoption fee is $400 for each dog/puppy. * If it is on a weekend of our adoptions, follow us on @DPSRescue on Twitter to get real time updates on our adoptions. We will also post at the end of the evening the names of those dogs who have been adopted: www.facebook.com/DPSRescue

Carter is a 2-3 year old Yorkie mix who we rescued from a shelter with his buddy Colton. Carter is initially a very shy guy and will do best in a home that gives him time and space to open up.  He was very cautious with his foster mom for the first day or two, but now he`s her little shadow and follows her everywhere.  He warms up to women more quickly than men, but is starting to bond with the males of the house after a few days. Carter loves to go on walks or cuddle up on the couch or bed near his foster mom.  Once he finds his comfort zone, he is playful: he plays catch (he hasn`t yet mastered the returning part of fetch!), likes to chew on squeaky toys, and pulled the rope out of the toy bin in his foster home and tossed it a bit.

Carter is best suited to a home that will be patient and give him time and space to settle in.  He won`t be your best buddy right away, but if you go slowly and let him adjust, he will become your new best friend!  We will be looking for a home that has had a dog in the last 5 years.  If there are children in the home, they need to be over the age of 10.

**Not all of our dogs go to each adoption event. We want to make sure if you are interested in a dog that we have the dog at adoptions but that can only happen if you fill out an application ahead of time and are pre-approved. (Generally this must happen prior to the weekend)

**If you are wanting to submit an application within 24 hours of an event, please print off the application and bring with you as well as submitting it. You may still submit it and if time and volunteers permit, we will contact you. Most applications submitted the weekend of adoptions are not responded to until after the adoption weekend.
