Zhorbit (MI)'s Story
Eight-year-old 15 lb. Zhorbit is a fearful dog because of a neglectful and abusive past. Fear is easily instilled in a dog but nearly impossible to completely extinguish. However, Zhorbit wants you to know that she’s not “broken.” She just needs specific tools and management to exist with a little more ease and a little less fear. Once she trusts you, she`ll be the funniest dog you ever saw and will even relax enough to let you pet her (a little). She follows commands, knows several tricks, and has excelled in a number of training classes, including basic obedience and agility. She is house trained and will bark when she needs to be let out. She can be left alone in the house for several hours at a time with no problem. She likes going for walks, so she`s a great exercise partner. She will sit on your lap--when she wants to, under her own terms--but you can`t pick her up. She`ll love sleeping in bed with you and even snuggling, but don`t move much or she`ll likely growl. She can`t tolerate being bathed or having her nails trimmed, and she refuses (with her teeth) to be crated. She even has to be sedated to go to the vet for the most minor of procedures! Not many people are savvy enough to handle Zhorbit and the remnants of her unfortunate past. If you are a truly dog-smart person who is able to see the diamond in the rough and who can appreciate a loyal little dog with some significant touch aversions, then maybe you’re the one to help Zhorbit find it a little easier to “just be.” She also requires a household with no children, cats, or dogs (or maybe just one other small, submissive dog). Yes, she can be a challenge, but she has a lot to offer and we believe in her ability to progress. Potential adopters must live within driving distance of Lansing, Michigan, so they can have a preadoption meet-and-greet with Zhorbit and her foster parents.
