Mercutio's Story
Mercutio is a sweet, loving, silly 8 week old terrier mix that weighs 5 lbs. He is estimated to be around 45-50 lbs once he is full grown. This little pup has the biggest personality and is certainly the entertainer in his foster home. His name was chosen because it suits him to a T. He makes his foster mom laugh constantly with his silly faces and puppy antics. He loves nothing more than snuggling with his foster mom and playing with the resident dogs. He is super social and loves everyone he meets, and doesn't have a shy bone in his body. When he can't find anyone to entertain, he is happy to play alone with his toys and can usually be found climbing into the doggy toy box to find lots of toys to drag out and play with. Mercutio is a laid back, go-with-the-flow kind of pup. He wears himself out pretty quickly playing with the resident chihuahua and chasing after toys his foster mom throws for him. His energy level will increase as he gets older, but his general temperament as the "chill guy" is a big indicator he will remain pretty easy going when he grows up. Since he loves to be involved in whatever his foster mom is doing, he would be a great companion for someone who works from home and enjoys spending lots of time outside. He is very curious and loves to explore the big backyard when his foster mom is doing yard work or spending time relaxing on the back porch. He gets more and more brave each time he goes outside and ventures to new spots not yet explored. As long as he continues to get exposure to new sights, smells, and sounds as he gets older, this pup would be a great adventure buddy and would love to explore nature trails with his forever human. Mercutio is dog, cat and kid friendly. He is currently in a foster home with both small and large dogs that range in age from 1 years old to 12 years old, and he loves them all. His best doggy friend is a 7 lb chihuahua and they love to play wrestle and play tug-o-war with their toys. He is very inquisitive when he sees a new animal he hasn't met before, and sticks his little tongue out to show he's excited. He even met a parrot at the vet and just stared in awe before he gently sniffed their feathers. He has learned a lot of manners from the the older dogs in her foster home and has learned to take cues when they corrected him for not respecting their personal space. He now understands how to play gentle with them. He would really love to have another dog in his forever home that he can continue learning from and playing with as he grows. He is curious to meet kitties, but was quick to turn his head when they made it clear that they weren't interested in meeting him. His sweet, loving, and playful temperament makes him the perfect pup to join a family with kids of all ages. Because he is so small and is teething, it is recommended that he go into a home with older children since he may playfully nibble on toddlers toes (he loves to chase his foster mom's feet and grab onto her fuzzy house shoes). Mercutio is kennel trained and playpen trained. He sleeps in a playpen at night with a few stuffed animals and his favorite blanket, and doesn't mind at all as long as his playpen is set up in the same room as his foster mom. On the weekend after his morning potty break, he loves to snuggle up in bed with his foster mom and take a little nap before they get up to start the day. He has been working on transitioning into a kennel for short periods as he improves with his potty training. He is still working on mastering potty training, but does well finding a potty pad when he needs to go. Now that he is vaccinated, he has started transitioning to outside potty training, and is picking up on it quickly as he watches the resident dogs do their business outside. He has not yet started leash training as he is still pretty uncoordinated on his feet due to his age. He will need to have a patient human in his forever home that will work with him to master leash training as he gets older. His ideal home environment would be a house with a fenced in backyard that he can run around and play in as he grows. Mercutio will have a $200 refundable neuter deposit added onto his adoption and transport fees because he is too young to be neutered at this time. He cannot be adopted into Canada at this time because of his age. If you are interested in adopting Mercutio, please fill out an application at: https://www.loveandpuppypawsdogrescue.com/adoption-application. Mercutio is in a foster home in Central Texas and will be transported once adopted. TRANSPORT: Currently we have monthly transports. It will be up to the adoptive family to meet the transport to pick up your new family member. Please be advised that our dogs are adopted to their forever families prior to being transported. Unfortunately at this time, we cannot bring dogs for a typical meet and greet situation, due to the extensiveness of the transport distance and it being unfair for the dogs who are not adopted to have to make the trip back. Please be advised that applications are reviewed in the order that they are received. To ensure we are honoring the dogs that we have committed to helping, we do have policies and procedures in place that we follow when reviewing adoption applications. LAPP Dog Rescue is ran 100% by volunteers, so please be mindful that when you submit an application that it can take a few days to be reviewed. Submitting an application is not a confirmation that the adoption will be approved/completed. Before submitting the application, please read the FULL description on PetFinder describing the dog's personality, energy level, housing requirements and our policy on meet and greets. The total cost to adopt is $830, which includes a $400 adoption fee, a $230 transport fee, and a $200 REFUNDABLE neuter deposit. The adoption fee includes all age appropriate vaccinations, microchip, flea/tick/heartworm prevention, dewormer, and health certificate from a licensed veterinarian.
