Garfield Cook's Story

Meet Garfield! A four month old mixes of Aussiedoodle (dad) and AMPT (mom). They came to us over the weekend due to being born in a large litter of 11, and their previous owner not being able to find homes for all the puppies. These three have lived their entire lives outside, with minimal socialization besides the family caring for them. They are sweet, sweet puppies but are terribly afraid of the outside world. Yesterday was their first day ever on leash and that was a pretty scary experience for them. They saw our vet yesterday and besides a minor case of conjunctivitis, they are all healthy babies. The smallest Greta, is just under thirty pounds with Garfield being almost thirty five pounds. All three will be LARGE dogs when fully grown. Greta, the female, is the most timid of the three but will give you a tail wag when you talk to her. Today Garfield ventured outside where he was able to meet other dogs and walked for a short bit. It will take time, patience, and caring individuals to help these puppies become familiar with the outside world but they are already making progress. We are looking for "Doodle" experienced homes for each of these puppies. This means that you must have vet records proving the ownership and care of a "Doodle" type dog either currently, or in the recent past. We understand that these types are dogs are extremely popular, but it is our job to ensure that they are in the proper homes that understand the care required. These dogs will be large, active, and will require frequent grooming. On top of the experience, potential adopters must understand that these puppies are under socialized and will require patience and understanding as they transition to a home environment living indoors. Potential adopters will also need to be residents of the Cabarrus/Mecklenburg area as these three have not been spayed or neutered yet. They have dates set for when they're old enough, that is included in the adoption fee of $190. If you are interested in adopting, please call the shelter at (704) 784-7387 to set up an appointment to fill out an application. All applications are done in person with a required appointment - no applications are online.
