Ruby Goose's Story

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Ruby Goose is a healthy, 6 year-old, 8 pound Shih Tzu who loves to cuddle with her people on her terms. Her favorite people are the men of the house! She loves to play with soft small toys, and recently started playing with balls that are the size of her head! While she is content to curl up on her bed, she also loves to go for walks and car rides. Ruby can be described as a sour patch kid, sweet and sour, but generally is a sweet, loving pup who expects cuddles and as many belly rubs as you will give (and then some!) She will need a forever home with someone who has a regular schedule, preferably either works from home, is home more often than not, or can often take her with them. Ruby will have separation anxiety at first, but the more comfortable she is in her new home, the more she relaxes. At night, you can expect she will want to cuddle with you in bed. She loves to sleep on top of her people, but is good sleeping alongside someone also. She will stay on the bed until you wake up, then greet you with a million tail wags, face licks and small barks. At the moment, she should not live with small children as she can resource guard, and does not like being picked up unless on her terms. She also DESPISES cats so no kitty friends in her new home. Ruby loves to play with other dogs she is familiar with, however, this should be under human supervision due to her resource guarding. She tends to prefer other naughty dogs to be her friend as those are the ones she chooses to be her best friend. Her foster sister is patient with her, but not fond of her 'tude and often will not engage in playtime with her if Ruby is having a moment. But they do play together, have fun times chasing each other, and have their zoomies together. Ruby likes to bark. She is quite the protector, but she quiets with a soft "shhhh"! She sometimes is a paradox, having a typical Shih Tzu "joking' attitude, then other times she aggressively plays, swinging toys into the air, pushing them against the couch, or engaging in a friendly tug 'o war with her person(s). It is delightful and surprising when she randomly - and very selectively - chooses a toy and engages in play gleefully snorkeling like only a Shih Tzu does. You may gasp or laugh when you hear her deep play noises, as they are coming out of such a small babe, but you can tell she is having fun. She loves to chase after thrown toys, but she may or may not bring them back! Sassy should be her middle name! Ruby will become frightened when being picked up, and reactively snip. Her human(s) will need to continue positive reinforcement training; this will help her be more comfortable with people-initiated interactions. She is very receptive to this training, and made incremental positive change in a short time. She is working on basic commands, but already knows paw, sit, and stay. She is such a smart girl! Ruby is potty trained to conduct her business transactions outside and on pads, and is a very good girl during bath time. She is leash trained, and enjoys adventures around the town. She may be small and needs stairs to reach the top of high beds, but she is quite the jumper! You will be amazed at the agility she possesses if she wants to move between furniture, she can jump and glide with the ease of a.cat! Ruby would like you to know that it is important she has access to a secured yard or at least someone who lets her outside throughout the day for walks, playtime, or afternoon sunbathing. She loves treats, but should have portion control as she came to the rescue above weight for her sturdy but small frame. Ruby is loyal and provides unconditional love. She is looking for someone to be her best friend forever. Are you that person? To adopt Ruby Goose, please complete an adoption application at peacelovepoms.rescuegroups.org. The $350 adoption donation ($250 for senior citizens 65+) includes core vaccines (Rabies, Parvo/Distemper, and Bordatella), Accuplex (Heart worm and Lyme test), fecal, microchip, bloodwork, spay, and all the love you can handle!
