Marmalade's Story

Marmalade (aka Marley) is a smart, laid back 10 week old possible Foxhound / Black Mouth Cur mix that weighs 14.5 lbs. She is expected to be around 60-65 lbs once she is full grown. Marley is a playful pup that loves to make new doggy friends. She is best described as social butterfly when it comes to dogs, but can be more reserved when meeting new people. This is most likely due to some of her siblings having the tendency to take the spotlight, and because she is more on the laid back side she will patiently wait for her turn to say hello and get some belly rubs. She loves being around her humans, but she's not a stage five clinger and will happily entertain herself with her favorite toys and food puzzle games. She is very smart and loves to engage in training activities. She's already learned commands for sit, lay down, and kennel, and is working on learning more. She is a big fan of the outdoors and loves to explore as she is running around playing with her siblings and the resident dogs in her foster home. She would be the perfect pup for someone that wants a go-with-the flow pup that is perfect mix of fun and laid back. She is one that would love going on outdoor adventures like hiking in the mountains or exploring nature trails on the weekends, and then have lazy days curled up on the couch cuddling, too. Marley is low to medium energy, so she is pretty mellow with short bursts of energy. As she gets older, she will require at least 1-2 hours of daily exercise and mental stimulation activities like walks around the neighborhood, puzzle games, and playtime in the backyard with her toys and doggy friends during the week. Then on the weekends if her human wants to take her on longer activities like fun hikes on nature trails, she will be happy to join, too. Her favorite dog toys are Kongs and Orbee balls because this girl loves her food and doesn't mind using her brain to get some yummy snacks. She really loves playing with her dog friends too, and she would love to have a playful dog companion in her forever home. She would also benefit from going to doggy day care a few times a week if her human works outside of the home so she can not only burn some energy, but be able to continue working on her confidence and dog socialization skills by learning from other dogs around her. Marley is dog, cat, and kid friendly. She does well with dogs of all ages and sizes. She loves making new doggy friends and is very polite when she introduces herself and interacts with them. She particularly likes the older dogs in her foster home and loves to follow them around the backyard as they snoot around in the grass. She would be fine being the only dog in the home as long as she gets plenty of time with her humans and can have frequent puppy play dates or go to doggy day care, but she would really love to have another dog sibling to grow up with. She is in a foster home with kitties and is very gentle with them. She loves to sit back and watch them, then will try to stand really still so they will rub up against her. She is very polite with them and gives them personal space when they communicate they're done interacting with her. She is also in a home with a human toddler and loves to follow her around. She is very gentle when interacting with her and knows to keep her distance with her when she is walking around, but can usually be found following behind her licking up crumbs that the toddler drops. She would be a great pup for a family with kids of any age because of her calm, sweet demeanor and she would love to have human kids to play with as she grows up. Marley is kennel trained, and is currently working on mastering potty training and leash training. She has started transitioning from using potty pads and a puppy litter box to going outside to do her business. She has picked up quickly on going outside for potty breaks, but she does need frequent and consistent potty breaks in order to not use the potty pad. She currently sleeps in a kennel at night and enjoys having it as a safe space. She will usually go in her kennel to nap when she is tired and is happy to hang out in there playing with her siblings even with the door is open. Her foster mom has started leash training her, and that is still a work in progress so she will need to continue working on her leash walking skills in her forever home. Marley's ideal home environment would be a house with a fenced in backyard that she can run around, explore, and play in. She would do well in an apartment, townhouse or condo as long as she has a human home majority of the day or that has a hybrid work schedule that can take her out for a few short walks per day for exercise and continued potty training. She would also benefit from going to a doggy day care a few times a week or have puppy play dates if she is the only dog in her forever home, but she would really benefit from having a confident, playful dog companion in her forever home. Marley is in a foster home in South Texas and will be transported once adopted. She is too young/small to be spayed at this time, so she will have a $200 REFUNDABLE spay deposit added onto her adoption and transport fees. The spay deposit will be paid directly to the vet of your choice once she is old enough to have the procedure done. If you are interested in adopting Marley, please fill out an application at: https://www.loveandpuppypawsdogrescue.com/adoption-application. TRANSPORT: Currently we have monthly transports. It will be up to the adoptive family to meet the transport to pick up your new family member. Please be advised that our dogs are adopted to their forever families prior to being transported. Unfortunately we cannot bring dogs for a typical meet and greet situation due to the extensiveness of the transport distance and it being unfair for the dogs who are not adopted to have to make the trip back. Please be advised that applications are reviewed in the order that they are received. To ensure we are honoring the dogs that we have committed to helping, we do have policies and procedures in place that we follow when reviewing adoption applications. LAPP Dog Rescue is ran 100% by volunteers, so please be mindful that when you submit an application that it can take a few days to be reviewed. Submitting an application is not a confirmation that the adoption will be approved/completed. Before submitting the application, please read the FULL description on PetFinder describing the dog's personality, energy level, housing requirements and our policy on meet and greets. *Applications with electric fences will not be approved for the safety of the dog* The total cost to adopt is $830, which includes a $400 adoption fee, a $230 transport fee, and a $200 REFUNDABLE spay deposit. The adoption fee includes all age appropriate vaccinations, microchip, flea/tick/heartworm prevention, dewormer, and health certificate from a licensed veterinarian. The refundable spay deposit will be paid directly to your vet to go towards her spay procedure once scheduled.
